The Department of Telecommunication, Information Studies and Media awards several scholarships every year. We have been fortunate to have many great alumni, faculty, and friends support our department and make scholarship opportunities available for students.

We have already awarded our scholarships for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Scholarship applications for the 2012-2013 academic year will be posted sometime during the 2011-2012 academic year. In the past, scholarship applications have been due in March, with recipients announced in April and honored at our Awards Banquet in April.

Applying

Make sure to turn in all supporting documentation for your Scholarship Application into 409 Comm. Arts by 5pm on the deadline.  The Scholarship Application and supporting documentation should include:

1. Fill out the TISM Scholarship Application Form online (all other materials are turned into 409 Comm Arts)
2. Cover letter- addressed to the TISM Scholarship Committee
3. Resume
4. One letter of recommendation (from someone outside of the TISM faculty)
5. Any other Scholarship Application Requirments (please double check the specifics of the scholarship(s) you are applying for)

Michael A Chaprnka Endowed Scholarship Award	Sophomore or older 2.5 GPA TISM student
Communication Arts & Sciences Scholarship in Telecommunication	TISM student Preference for Audio students
Jim Cash Creative Writing Award	TISM or English student Taking or took creative writing/storytelling courses
Robert J. & Joanne P. Kobel and Susan Meurer Expendable Scholarship	Student considering a career in electronic media including broadcasting, cable, or telecommunication TISM student
Gary Reid Professional Development Fund	TISM junior, senior, or graduate student Student studying audio, radio, television or film Preference will be given to applicants desiring an internship in the Los Angeles area, although in the absence of such a candidate these funds may be used to support internship work anywhere in the United States outside of the State of Michigan The award can be used for, but not limited to, housing, transportation, tuition and other required expenses incurred during the internship experience.
Thomas A. Muth, Sr. Endowed Fund in Telecommunication, Information Studies and Media	TISM undergraduate or graduate student Prefered: Students that demonstrate financial need, as determined by the federal government, according to its policies and procedures Prefered: Minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4 point scale) Prefered: Participate in activities that enhance career opportunities (e.g. networking events, internships, professional association memberships, attending professional conferences)
Maxine and John (Jake) Ferris Global Award in Technologies & Applications	TISM Student Scholarship funds are to help cover the cost of travel and other related expenses associated with participating in the ICT Global Corps.
Roberta Jeffers Dailey	TISM or JRN student GPA of 3.0 or above Be active in extra-curricular college and university activities in broadcast media, film, theater, etc.
